From the ground up: Pat Hamill's blueprint for success through entrepreneurship and philanthropy

About Pat Hamill

Pat Hamill moved to Colorado in the 1970s to attend the University of Denver, and following graduation in 1981, he started his own consulting business. In 1990, Pat launched Oakwood Homes, LLC, which has long been established as an innovative, community-oriented and successful business. Oakwood Homes is a company that truly represents Pat’s spirit and dedication to giving back to the communities it works in. Currently, Oakwood Homes is the largest private home builder in Colorado and last year expanded into Omaha, Nebraska.

Pat supports the community personally and professionally, donating time, resources and funding. He has long been an advocate for education and has worked toward giving back to his community by providing educational opportunities for those after him. In 1997, Pat co-founded both the Foundation for Educational Excellence and the 21^st Century High-Tech Academy in the Green Valley Ranch/Montbello area of Denver. Pat also participated in the redesign of the Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School to the Martin Luther King Jr. Early College. In the spring of 2013, the school celebrated its first graduating class with a 100 percent graduation rate, and 87 percent of graduates accepted to four-year colleges. Because of Pat’s leadership on innovative educational solutions, Gov. Bill Ritter appointed him to co-chair the Early Childhood Leadership Council, which is now the Early Childhood Leadership Commission.

Pat is the chairman of Colorado Concern, an exclusive alliance of top executives in the state with a common interest in enhancing and protecting Colorado’s business climate. Pat served on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver, and currently serves as emeritus. He is a trustee of the University of Denver Burns School scholarship fund, chairman of the Colorado Open Golf Foundation, co-chair of the Early Childhood Commission, member of Mayor Hancock’s Denver Education Compact Executive Committee, member on the board of trustees for HealthOne, past board member and vice chairman of the Metro Football Stadium District from 1996-2011, and former chairman of Mayor Webb’s Housing Affordability Task Force. Pat has been awarded for his professional and philanthropic work including the Boys & Girls Clubs “Champion of Youth Award” in 2007, the University of Denver Founder’s Day “Professional Achievement Award” in 1999, and he was named honorary Dean of Real Estate and Construction Management at the University of Denver in 2004.
