How do leaders build, use and manage emotion successfully?

Do emotions play a role in strong leadership and how do leaders build, manage, and use emotion successfully? Studying experts in emotional intelligence, this session will explore:

• The importance of emotion as a leadership tool beyond technical acumen
• How to be aware of and effectively respond to one’s emotions
• How to manage oneself and one’s relationships for leadership intelligence
• Leadership Intelligence layers and their applicability to relationship management

Outcomes: Participation will result in self-awareness about one’s emotions, leadership style and po-tential. Participants will learn to effectively use this self-awareness to manage oneself and one’s rela-tionships to motivate, engage, and develop one’s followers.

About Amanda Pollack

Amanda Pollock is a faculty member within Executive and Professional Programs at the Daniels College of Business, University of Denver. She teaches in a variety of corporate programs as well as in the Executive MBA program, focusing on intercultural competence, global business, and emotional intelligence. She is certified in the Insights Discovery System, the Intercultural Development Inventory, and Thunderbird’s Global Mindset. Corporate clients have included Newmont Mining, CenturyLink, Crocs, and Level 3.

Amanda designed and implemented the Global Opportunities program for graduate business students, compiled of courses which leverage the university’s corporate relationships to provide real world educational context on corporate social responsibility issues for Daniels MBA students. She has co-led and taught these integrated Global Opportunity courses for classes focused on the extraction industries as well as venture capital to Peru, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and Rwanda over the past three years. Prior to joining Daniels, Amanda directed the Plus Global international program which she created at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin. She has also worked for the executive branch of the British Red Cross in London. Amanda has a Masters degree in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and an undergraduate degree in International Relations from the University of Nebraska.
